Their Majesties the King and Queen Visit Lingguang Temple in Beijing

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on 15 November 2025 at 11.09 hr visited Lingguang Temple in Beijing to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha.

Lingguang Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple with a history of more than 1,000 years. It is renowned for housing the Buddha's Tooth Relic, which is a national treasure of China and a sacred relic revered by Buddhists worldwide.

In 2002, the relic was exhibited in Thailand on the occasion of the 75th birthday anniversary of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. In celebration of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua’s sixth-cycle, or 72nd, birthday anniversary in 2024, as well as the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations in 2025, China allowed the Buddha’s Tooth Relic from Lingguang Temple to be temporarily enshrined in Thailand for 73 days between 4 December 2024 and 14 February 2025.

During the visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen to Lingguang Temple, a number of Chinese Buddhists gathered along the route to greet Their Majesties. A traditional Chinese band played music. Venerable Master Yan Jiew, President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, Venerable Chang Zhang, Abbot of Lingguang Temple, senior representatives from the National Religious Affairs Administration, and the Secretary General of the Buddhist Association of China welcomed His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen. 

Their Majesties proceeded to the Yuan Tong Hall to pay homage to the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha by offering golden and silver trees, flowers, and incense at the altar, and then Their Majesties lit incense and candles.

Afterward, Their Majesties proceeded to the lower hall of the Great Pagoda to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha and three statues of the Buddha, namely Dipankara Buddha, Sakyamuni Buddha, and Metteya Buddha. Their Majesties offered tributes to the Buddha’s Tooth Relic. Chinese monks chanted prayers. 

On this occasion, the President of the Chinese Buddhist Association presented a Buddha image to His Majesty, while the Abbot of Lingguang Temple presented a Buddha statue to Her Majesty. Then Their Majesties proceeded to the base of the Great Pagoda and circled it clockwise, viewing wood carvings depicting scenes from the Buddha's life and the 500 arhats. The Abbot of Lingguang Temple explained the carvings. 

After the visit to the temple, Their Majesties the King and Queen travelled back to the China World Hotel, Beijing.
