Travel Advisory: Attending the Memorial and Condolence Signing for HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha

For those who wish to pay their final respects to Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha, here is everything you need to know before making your journey to the Grand Palace.

1. Condolence Signing Schedule
The Bureau of the Royal Household has opened the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion in the Grand Palace for the public:
🗓️ Dates:  14–19 June 2026
Hours: 08:30 AM – 04:00 PM 
Note: People can also pay respects at Chulalongkorn Hospital until 26 June 2026, from 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM.
⚠️ Important: The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha are temporarily closed to general tourists from now until 19 June 2026 due to Royal Funeral Ceremonies. Only those coming to sign the condolence book at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion will be permitted entry during this period. Please plan your visit accordingly

2. Airport Guidelines & Public Transport Options
Airport of Thailand (AOT) has fully prepared its airports to ensure safe and smooth travel for mourners. For passengers arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), the following public transport options are available directly from the terminal to connect to the Grand Palace:
■ Public Bus (Route S1): Suvarnabhumi Airport Khaosan Road / Sanam Luang
Locations: Passenger Terminal, 1st Floor, Gate 7 (Inner Curbside) OR the Public Transportation Center.
Hours: 06:00 AM – 08:00 PM.
■ Airport Rail Link (ARL):
Location: Suvarnabhumi Station, Basement Level (Floor B) of the Passenger Terminal.
Hours: 05:30 AM – 12:00 AM (Midnight).
Route: Passengers can take the train to Phaya Thai Station to transfer to the BTS Skytrain, public buses, or taxis heading to the Grand Palace.
■ Public Taxis:
Location: Passenger Terminal, 1st Floor, between Gates 4 and 7 (Inner Curbside).
Hours: Available 24/7.
Grab (Ride-Hailing Service):
Location: Passenger Terminal, 1st Floor, Gate 4 (Outer Curbside).
Hours: Available 24/7.

3. Free Shuttle Bus Services 
To reduce traffic, free shuttle buses provided by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) are available to transport people from major transit hubs directly to Sanam Luang:
■ Key Shuttle Routes:
M1: MRT Tha Phra Station – Sanam Luang (07:00 AM – 03:00 PM)
M2: MRT Sanam Chai Station – Sanam Luang (07:00 AM – 03:30 PM)
M8: Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal – Sanam Luang (07:00 AM – 03:00 PM) [Best for train commuters or those taking the SRT Red Line from Don Mueang]
M9: Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) – Sanam Luang (07:00 AM – 03:00 PM)
M16: Tha Phra Chan/Tha Chang Area – Sanam Luang (08:00 AM – 05:40 PM)
The last bus departs Sanam Luang at 06:00 PM. For more information, call 1348.
(Note: The codes M1, M2, M8, M9, and M16 are special shuttle routes set up by the BMTA for this event. The "M" stands for "Mourners" and will be displayed on the front of the buses for easy identification.

4. Traffic and Road Info (Metropolitan Police)
There are no permanent road closures on main routes around the Grand Palace. However, traffic may slow down from time to time on roads surrounding Sanam Luang, including Na Phra Lan Road, Ratchadamnoen Nai Road, and Sanam Chai Road.
■ Advice: Commuters with no urgent business are advised to avoid the roads around Sanam Luang.
■ For Mourners: Please use public transport or the MRT/BTS, then catch the free BMTA shuttle bus to avoid traffic and parking issues.
■ For real-time traffic updates, call 1197.
