The Ministry of Agriculture is enhancing the quality of "selected mangosteen" through soil management to penetrate export markets.

Mangosteen is a highly popular fruit for export, similar to durian, which is considered a yin-yang fruit with both cool and warm qualities. The Ministry of Agriculture sees an opportunity to enhance the potential of mangosteen by focusing on proper soil management to improve both the quality and quantity of production, making it more competitive in export markets, particularly in China, which is a key market for Thai mangosteen.

Soil management is crucial for the development of mangosteen cultivation. The primary growing areas in the southern and eastern regions have suitable soil, and farmers need to maintain soil fertility, ensuring balanced acidity and alkalinity while adjusting the soil based on analyses from the Department of Agriculture. Proper fertilization according to the plant's needs can reduce planting costs by up to 20% and increase yields by up to 10%. Fertilization should be divided into four main stages according to the plant's growth to achieve the best quality.

Collecting soil samples for nutrient analysis is an essential step in agricultural development. Farmers should collect soil samples annually to assess soil fertility and continuously improve it for mangosteen cultivation. This development through soil management will help ensure high-quality production ready for the ever-growing export market.
