Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property Thailand under the Ministry of Commerce has officially registered two world-renowned Italian cheeses—Asiago and Gorgonzola—as Geographical Indication (GI) products. The move reinforces Thailand’s image as a country with a robust and internationally recognized GI protection system, while highlighting its growing importance as a high-potential market in the eyes of global producers. This development is expected to open doors for stronger international trade cooperation in the long term.
Both Asiago and Gorgonzola are distinguished by their traditional production methods and unique geographical origins in Italy. Strict quality control is applied throughout every stage of production, resulting in cheeses with distinctive flavors, aromas, and textures that clearly reflect their place of origin. These characteristics exemplify the value of GI products in preserving authenticity while enhancing product identity.
The registration underscores the role of GI in adding commercial value and boosting global recognition of specialty products. It also signals Thailand’s commitment to supporting premium markets and fostering trust in quality standards, positioning the country as a key player in the global GI landscape.
