Thailand has been elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2025-2027 term. In the election held during the United Nations General Assembly, Thailand received 177 votes, the highest in the Asia-Pacific group and the best score ever achieved.
Thailand will begin its role as a member of the UNHRC on January 1, 2025, for a 3-year term, alongside 17 other countries, including Benin, Bolivia, Colombia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
The government believes that joining the UNHRC will help raise the standards of human rights both domestically and internationally, while also enhancing Thailand's global image. This election victory provides Thailand with an important opportunity to play a key role in promoting human rights issues. The government is committed to working closely with other member countries to address global human rights challenges.
Thailand's participation in the UNHRC will not only benefit human rights within the country but also foster international cooperation to ensure equal rights and freedom for all. The Thai government is determined to continue its efforts to create a fair and just society for everyone, both in Thailand and worldwide.
