U.S. News & World Report announced the list of countries with the most valuable cultural heritage for 2024, with Thailand ranking 8th out of 89 countries globally.
The top 10 countries with the richest cultural heritage in 2024 are: 1. Greece, 2. Italy, 3. Spain, 4. France, 5. Turkey, 6. Mexico, 7. Egypt, 8. Thailand, 9. Portugal, and 10. India.
The ranking criteria are based on five key attributes of each country: 1) Accessible culture, 2) Rich history, 3) Excellent cuisine, 4) Numerous cultural landmarks, and 5) Abundant geographic attractions.
Thailand is celebrated for its magnificent temples, unique Thai massage, and globally renowned cuisine such as Tom Yum Goong and Green Curry. Its cultural festivals, including Loy Krathong and Songkran, attract both domestic and international tourists.
The Thai Ministry of Culture has implemented policies to promote and elevate Thai culture through "soft power" by focusing on famous festivals like Khon performances, recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, and the Loy Krathong festival, which reflects the Thai connection with waterways. These initiatives aim to elevate Thailand’s cultural economy internationally, attracting global tourists to experience its unique heritage.
This ranking enhances Thailand's global image, boost tourism and the economy, and instill pride in its longstanding cultural heritage — a key factor in strengthening the country's competitiveness.
