The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives presided over a seminar on policy implementation aimed at advancing Thai rice production. The initiative prioritizes the modernization of traditional farming methods, emphasizing the enhancement of large-scale rice fields and community rice centers by integrating new research and innovations. The focus is on elevating the safety and quality of rice production to meet global market demands, thus revitalizing the “Thai Kitchen to the World” policy.
Rice remains a crucial economic crop for Thailand, with rice exports in 2023 exceeding targeted goals. However, the quality of life for rice farmers continues to face challenges. The government’s new policies underscore the adoption of Agri-Tech and Food Tech in agricultural processes to increase the value of agricultural products and boost farmers’ incomes. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture, emphasized the importance of the Rice Department's role in promoting high-quality seeds within community rice centers and advancing labor-saving technology applications.
During the seminar, the Director-General of the Rice Department underscored the importance of developing a competitive production approach for the global market. This involves focusing on producing high-quality rice that meets international consumer standards and adds value to rice products. This policy will be implemented through integrated collaboration among various agencies, with support from the government sector. With such efforts, Thai rice production is expected to strengthen and secure long-term economic stability for farmers.
