DITP Strengthens Global Thai SELECT Network to Drive Gastronomy Soft Power and Business Connectivity

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), under the Ministry of Commerce, is advancing its global mission to elevate the Thai culinary industry through its comprehensive network development project for Thai SELECT certified restaurants. This strategic initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of Thai restaurateurs overseas, reinforce Thailand's global brand image, and sustainably drive cultural Soft Power through world-class authentic cuisine.

Ms. Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, Director-General of the DITP, stated that Thai SELECT serves as a premier international benchmark guaranteeing authentic taste, premium ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and high-quality service. Following a recent rebranding that introduced the prestigious "Orchid Honor Star" and updated evaluation criteria, there are now 1,419 certified Thai restaurants across 70 countries globally (as of May 2026). These establishments act as vital economic and cultural conduits for the nation on the world stage.

The 2026 iteration of the project focuses on reinforcing this global network through knowledge-sharing, skill development, and market trend updates. This year, 15 selected Thai SELECT restaurateurs from the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, East Asia, South Asia, and ASEAN participated in an immersive, curated program. The itinerary featured deep-dive cultural and culinary source studies in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, professional culinary training at Dusit Thani College, and strategic visits to contemporary culinary hubs like Song Wat Road.

Furthermore, participants engaged in high-level business exchanges with prominent industry experts. A key commercial highlight of the project was the integration with THAIFEX – Anuga Asia 2026, where international operators successfully conducted business matching with certified Thai food manufacturers, exploring modern food industry innovations and securing robust supply chains to ensure the long-term, sustainable growth of Thai cuisine globally.
