Climate change is a significant problem affecting all sectors, especially agriculture, which is severely impacted by drought and flooding. These changes compel farmers to adapt to cope with unpredictable weather. The Department of Agricultural Extension has formulated a plan to help farmers continue sustainably, focusing on environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
One of the key plans is transitioning to a low-carbon era by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the production process through new technologies such as soil conditioning, alternating wetting and drying irrigation, and using fertilizers based on soil analysis results to improve efficiency. Integrated pest management and reducing burning in farming areas are also important strategies to mitigate environmental impacts. Moreover, promoting the use of biotechnology and circular practices helps reduce resource loss and increases production efficiency.
These adaptations not only help farmers maintain their income but also assist Thailand in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. Promoting sustainable agriculture through innovation and modern management is essential for helping Thai farmers effectively cope with the challenges of changing climates.
