The Ministry of Commerce has pushed for the "Kra-Ton Na Prik Satun" to be registered as a Geographical Indication (GI), making it the second GI product of Satun province, following the Jamphada Satun. This GI registration will help enhance the value of local products and generate income for farmers growing Kra-Ton in the area. Kra-Ton Na Prik Satun is cultivated in areas with sufficient moisture and groundwater, resulting in a sweet taste, soft flesh, and thick fluffy seed coating that are unique characteristics.
Popular varieties of Kra-Ton include the Ila variety, which has large fruit, thin skin, and soft fluffy flesh that is favored. There are also the Pui Fai and Thapthim varieties that are well-liked. The GI registration allows Kra-Ton Na Prik Satun to enter global markets and connect with community tourism under the slogan "Source of Sweet Soft Kra-Ton, Land of Ancient History."
This initiative is part of the Soft Power policy aimed at promoting local products to reach further while helping farmers and communities benefit from market expansion both domestically and internationally.
