Bangkok Holds Forum on PM2.5 and Clean Air Law

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yodchanan Wongsawat participated in a public forum in Bangkok focused on tackling Thailand’s PM2.5 air pollution crisis and advancing proposed clean air legislation. The event was organized by the Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand and brought together representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, and the public sector. Representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office on behalf of Permanent Secretary Yupha Taweewattanakitborvon also attended to observe the discussions.

The forum was divided into two main sessions covering challenges of dust pollution and forest fires across Thailand, along with discussion on future legal frameworks and policy approaches for clean air measures and PM2.5 reduction management. It also highlighted the importance of cooperation among government institutions, local communities, and environmental groups in addressing the country’s worsening air quality issues.

Participants were also offered opportunities to gather views and recommendations on the impact of air pollution and possible long-term solutions. Information and proposals gathered during the forum may later be submitted to the Cabinet, Parliament, and related agencies for further consideration as Thailand continues developing policies to address environmental and public health concerns linked to PM2.5 pollution.
