The year 2024 marks the 242nd anniversary of the foundation of Rattanakosin, or Bangkok. The Ministry of Culture is joining hands with various agencies to organize a cultural festival to celebrate this special occasion.
The festival is taking place at two sites: (1) at Wat Prayurawongsawat Worawihan from 19 to 23 April, and (2) at Bangkok old town area, including the National Museum Bangkok, the National Theatre, Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center, and the ASEAN Cultural Center, from 21 to 25 April.
Highlighted activities include paying homage to Buddha images and visiting the Grand Palace, taking night museum tours and attending cultural performances, tasting authentic Thai cuisine, purchasing cultural products, and discovering Thai history.
The history of Rattanakosin dates back to the year 1782, when King Rama I established Rattanakosin, as the capital. He was also the founder of the Royal House of Chakri. Since its founding as the capital city, Bangkok has grown to become an important political, social, and economic center of the region. Its richness in cultural and historical sites reflects the country’s long history and unique culture.
