Thailand is moving towards developing Thai "Smart Farmers" by utilizing technology and innovation to increase product value and sustainably improve the quality of life for farmers. The government is implementing policies to continuously support the agricultural sector, aiming to triple the net income of farmers within 4 years while also enhancing their living standards.
Developing Thai Smart Farmers relies on applying innovation and technology in processing agricultural products to add value to yields. Using modern machinery and technology helps control quality, reduce production costs, and increase safety for consumers. The development of Thai Smart Farmers also emphasizes Smart Farming management, covering cost reduction, improving product quality standards, mitigating risks from natural disasters, and promoting knowledge transfer to farmers. Currently, Thai agricultural sector has begun incorporating technologies such as agricultural drones, using renewable energy from nature, and processing products to increase value.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry is providing financial support to SME entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector through the state-sponsored SME Development Fund. This helps entrepreneurs access funding more easily and promotes the use of agricultural waste materials as alternative energy, creating sustainability from clean energy use and increasing farmer income through carbon credit sales. The Ministry continues to support the development of the agricultural sector towards becoming Smart Farmers to truly create sustainability for farming communities and genuinely improve the quality of life for Thai farmers.
