Celebrate National Thai Fabric Day on August 12th

Every August 12th, we celebrate National Thai Fabric Day to honor the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on the auspicious occasion of her 90th birthday. National Thai Fabric Day is established to encourage all sectors to preserve, promote, and continue the tradition of Thai fabrics.

The objectives of National Thai Fabric Day are to campaign for all sectors to acknowledge the benevolence of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who has promoted and preserved Thai fabrics. “Thai fabric” encompasses textiles created from the inherited wisdom of Thais, passed down through generations, reflecting local identity and produced within the country by Thai artisans. Techniques include weaving, embroidery, brocade, ikat, tie-dye, batik, and printing, using a variety of natural fibers such as silk, cotton, and pineapple fibers, unique to each region. Different regions produce distinct patterns, such as skirts from the North, silk from the Northeast, and fabrics from the South, all showcasing beauty and profound meaning.

Wearing Thai fabrics not only reflects the nation's long-standing culture and traditions but also expresses pride in the diverse and exquisite cultural heritage. "Join the celebration of National Thai Fabric Day" by wearing Thai fabrics to revive their popularity, create jobs, generate income, and improve quality of life. It also helps preserve national arts and culture, continuing and expanding the legacy of Thai textile wisdom, enhancing cultural heritage, and promoting economic growth.
