EEC rising star businesses in 2023: Looking back to the past and forward to the future

        According to statistics on the investment promotion status in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in the third quarter of 2022, the certificate issuance value for investment promotion during the 9 months of January-September was higher than 1.8 million baht, accounting for 52% of the certificate issuance value of the whole country. The popular businesses in the First S-Curve, comprising automotive and parts; smart electronic industry; affluent, medical, and wellness tourism; agriculture and biotechnology; and food processing industry, coming to 52% (the EV industry’s proportion of investment took up 32% of that amount), followed by New S-Curve businesses, comprising robotics, aviation and logistics, biofuels and biochemical, digital, and medical hub, 29%, and other industry groups, 19%.

        When we consider the investment value, automotive and parts industry had the highest value, 65,133 million baht, followed by petrochemicals and chemicals, 34,719 million baht, and electric and electronic appliances, 20,128 million baht. Rayong province has attracted the most international investment in the EEC, followed by Chonburi and Chachoengsao. 

        This information can be used to supplement the decision-making of investors, especially foreign investors who are looking for new areas for investment. The important thing is that the government is moving forward to promote investments in 12 targeted industries, especially in the EEC. In the meantime, the development plan for EEC infrastructure and public utilities (2023-2027), with an investment value higher than 337,797.07 million baht in 77 projects, is being accelerated to elevate the use of infrastructure in the rail system, public transport, and logistics connecting to new economic areas that will be beneficial to investors.
