Road Safety Measures
Safety is a crucial factor for travelers when deciding to embark on a trip. In particular, road safety is of utmost importance since road accidents can result in injuries and even fatalities. Studies have shown that the primary cause of accidents among tourists is car and motorcycle crashes, often resulting from a lack of familiarity with local laws and regulations, and a failure to wear helmets while riding motorcycles.
For the tourists' safety, therefore, the basic road safety measures are as follows:
- Creating a comprehensive safety driving manual that features essential traffic laws, regulations, and etiquette for driving cars and motorcycles in Thailand. This includes the necessary procedures to follow in case of an accident, so that people know how to report incidents in a prompt and effective manner;
- Encouraging tourists to drive safely during festival initiatives that involve educating them, creating route maps, outlining what to do in the event of an accident, and notifying the appropriate parties by setting up a one-stop service center, and having a tourist information center to help;
- Organizing driving lessons for operators of both motorbikes and cars in Thailand to assist and inform foreign travelers who cross the border to enter Thailand through the Chiang Khong checkpoint in Chiang Rai. Streamlining border crossing procedures and offering print media to introduce rules for automobiles and motorcycles in Thailand are further measures to take. Publishing information on Thailand's safety includes the installation of warning signs and instructions on safe driving techniques for both vehicles and motorcyclists.
