The BCG model will drive Thailand’s new economic development, but the pharmaceutical and vaccine sectors will face some of the most challenging strategies. The development of medicines and vaccines under the BCG model plays an important role in contributing to the development of the country in all aspects.
The relevant agencies have a plan for “drug development,” especially in Thailand’s modern pharmaceutical industry, which produces mostly ready-made drugs. However, it still relies on importing essential drugs from foreign countries to mix and produce finished drugs for sale, causing intense competition in terms of price. In addition, the pharmaceutical industry requires high investment and additional factors, such as personnel with expertise, knowledge, and experience in system research and development, quality control, and patent registration.
An important approach in drug development is to encourage the creation of a chemical library and information on its subject matter that can be accessed as a database for the development of new drugs. Such a database would improve the readiness of the manpower in necessary fields and build up the ability to perform various tests, as well as establishing the country's first Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) factory for health security.
