Agrotourism – Learn silk farming, Surin Province
Currently, the trend of wearing traditional Thai silk outfits has become increasingly popular among foreigners and young people, thanks to the modern designs that still maintain the unique traditional silk patterns. Today, we will take a look at the famous silk village of Ban Pho Kong in Surin Province, which is not only a village known for its silk, but also a conservation-based tourist attraction and homestay. Visitors can also learn about silk farming, which is the main occupation of the people in this community and is renowned for its exceptional quality of silk weaving. This silk is classified into one thread or tiny thread, with the unique feature of small, smooth, and soft yarns. When worn, it feels cool and comfortable. The wisdom of silk weaving in Surin involves intricate techniques that require skilled artisans, and this type of weaving is found only in Ban Pho Kong. It drew the interest of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who said it was "cool and comfortable to wear.”
In addition to being a learning and tourist attraction, it also provides an opportunity for visitors to experience the local way of life, culture, Thai-Khmer language conservation, and the origin of the traditional game of Kha Nop Ting Tong. There is also a summer course to teach the Khmer language and Khmer alphabet.
