The Wa River is a long and winding river with many islands and rapids and covers areas in the Doi Phu Kha National Park, Khun Nan National Park, and Mae Charim National Park in Nan Province. The Wa River’s rapids are a popular tourist destination for those who enjoy natural tourism and white-water rafting adventures. The levels of difficulty of rafting on the Wa River rapids vary according to the areas of the river.
The lower section of the Wa River covers a total distance of 15 kilometers and can be navigated all year round (level of difficulty 1-3). Along the riverbanks, there are lush green forests and unique rock formations in some areas, as well as water play areas on the sandy beaches.
The middle section of the Wa River covers a distance of 85 km. The route is filled with islands, water castles flowing through gorges, and has strong currents and rapids, making it suitable for experienced rafters (level of difficulty 1-5). The best time to engage in activities there is from May to January.
The upper section of the Wa River covers a distance of 35 km (with more than 100 islands) and passes through rocky rapids and waterfalls. The currents are very strong, making it suitable only for experienced rafters.
The Wa River is considered a challenging and exciting rafting destination that is suitable for travellers of all levels. It is possible to go white-water rafting almost all year round, except during the month of August, when rafting activities are prohibited.
