Title Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria and measuring the economic benefits of community tourism

      Promoting the management of tourist attractions in accordance with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council's guidelines necessitates social and economic sustainability as a key driver in order to meet the global sustainable tourism criteria. Fortunately, today’s tourists are environmentally conscious and want to support environmentally friendly products and services in order to protect the community’s interests and further international sustainable tourism goals. It all requires collaboration in many areas, including the public sector, private sector, and tourist groups, to support socioeconomic sustainability that can bring economic benefits to the community. The economic benefits of tourism can be calculated as follows:

  1. The economic benefits of direct and indirect tourism are tracked and communicated to the public;
  2. Appropriate measures of achievement are used, such as the number of tourists, tourist spending, employment, investment, and other evidence of economic interest distribution.

Indicators of economic benefits from tourism include the following:

  1. Having an economic data collection program;
  2. An annual report on the economic benefits of direct and indirect tourism is required;
  3. Data on the number of tourists, spending, employment, investment, and the distribution of economic interests in the tourist destination must be collected.
