Ten places where singles pay homage to sacred objects and ask for love (Location 2: Phra Mae Uma Devi)

Phra Mae Uma Devi, in Wat Khaek, on Silom Road, is another place with a powerful deity that single people like to pray to when they’re searching for love. That is because of the belief that those who come to pray for love at this temple will find love that will never fade, similar to the love that Uma Devi had for Shiva, making Uma Devi the deity who has faith and a stable, secure love. So, if you’re unmarried and looking for love and want to speed up the search, a blessing from Phra Mae Uma Devi is the way to go. That’s what the formerly single population says.

For those who want to make offerings, the temple will place them on trays for 60 baht per tray. The best choices are incense sticks, candles, marigold garlands, milk, bananas, coconuts, and sugarcane. The place to buy them is in front of the entrance to the temple. Offering meat and fishy or prickly things is strictly forbidden.

The proper way to venerate a Brahmin priest involves bringing incense and candles to light outside the temple, praying to Ganesha first, then praying to Phra Umayak, and finally praying inside the temple. The Brahmin will give the worship tray to you, who will then return it to the Brahmin along with one of the things intended for the offering. If food is returned, it can be taken back to eat. If it is a flower, take it back to worship. Then the Brahmin raises his palms and anoints the forehead with talcum powder. In the Christian tradition, two hues are used for the powder: The red powder, known as Phong Kum Kum, and the white powder, known as Phong Wiphuti, are both names for the same substance.

In most cases, if a woman is anointed, he will use only red. If a man is anointed, he will be anointed with both colors. When the Brahmin has finished anointing your forehead, open your hands to receive the holy water and rub your head.

Wat Khaek Silom is open Monday-Thursday from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday-Sunday from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

As for the best way to travel, you can use many public bus services that go down Silom Road, or take the BTS sky train to Surasak station. When you come down, you will be at the end of a soi, a side road connecting Sathorn Road to Silom Road, so walk along the soi to Silom or catch a motorcycle tuk tuk or a taxi.
