Celebrate Chinese New Year in Bangkok's Chinatown!
Get ready for a grand celebration in Bangkok! Yaowarat, the city's vibrant Chinatown, is hosting a spectacular Chinese New Year event on 10th February, ushering in the Year of the Dragon. This year's festivities are a collaboration with the Chinese Embassy and promise to be more dazzling than ever, featuring a variety of cultural performances and stunning illuminations, beginning at the Odeon Circle on Yaowarat Road and spreading throughout the area for the entire month.
2024 marks a significant year as it celebrates 49 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China and 19 years of cultural and tourism cooperation between the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism. TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool is particularly excited about this event, emphasizing its importance in strengthening ties with China and boosting travel and tourism. With the aim of attracting up to 8 million Chinese tourists this year, the celebration is expected to be a major boost for Thailand's tourism sector.
The event will feature a breathtaking array of performances from both Thai and Chinese artists, including a special dance troupe from China's Fujian province, brought in by the China Cultural Centre.
In a bid to continue attracting visitors from China, the Thai government introduced visa-free entry for Chinese tourists in September. Starting 1st March, visa requirements for Chinese visitors will be permanently waived, making travel between the two countries even easier.
