Connecting Thailand and Malaysia! The Department of Highways is moving forward with the construction of a bridge over the Golok River to expand border trade.

Good news for those traveling and trading across the Thailand-Malaysia border!

The Department of Highways is moving forward with the construction of a parallel bridge over the Golok River, connecting Su-ngai Kolok District in Narathiwat Province and Kelantan State in Malaysia. This is to enhance the capacity of accommodating increasing traffic volumes and promote border trade growth.

The construction project for this bridge has a budget of 200 million baht, with both Thailand and Malaysia sharing the costs. The new bridge will run parallel to the existing one, measuring 116 meters in length, accommodating two lanes for vehicles, as well as motorcycle lanes and sidewalks, complete with a roof for the comfort of travelers.

A key feature of the new bridge is its design to handle traffic exiting Malaysia into Thailand, which will help alleviate congestion at the border checkpoint and facilitate smoother travel for cross-border commuters.

Additionally, this bridge construction will strengthen the good relationship between Thailand and Malaysia, promote economic cooperation, and create opportunities for further development in border areas.

Construction of the bridge is expected to begin in April 2025 and be completed within two years, which will undoubtedly benefit trade, investment, and tourism between the two countries.
