Transforming Local Wisdom into Creative Economy and Environmental Sustainability for Lasting Income

In Nakhon Phanom province, in Nong Yang Chin subdistrict, Renunakorn district,there is a community that uses local wisdom to generate income and improve quality of life.This is the “Nah Huakhua Tai Basket Weaving Group,”which began as a gathering of villagers interested and skilled in bamboo weaving. 

Founded about five years ago, the group aimed to promote additional careers for community members and preserve the traditional knowledge that was fading away. They started with training sessions, passing on weaving skills from experienced members to newcomers.

BCG Model Production Approach: The group adopted the BCG Model (Bio-Circular-Green Economy) for their basketry. They use natural materials found locally, such as bamboo, which is cultivated in cycles and does not harm the environment.This approach helps reduce material costs and creates eco-friendly products.

Products and Income: Their main products include baskets, bags, and household items made from bamboo,

which are popular both locally and beyond. Thanks to the BCG Model, members earn an extra income of 7,000–8,000 baht per month. Additionally, the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Employment Office has supported access to the Self-Employment Promotion Fund, with a maximum loan of 300,000 baht, helping expand their business and create local economic opportunities.

Government and Community Support: A recent visit by executives from the Ministry of Labor highlights the importance of promoting self-employment and skills development in the community. The government has provided support through training, access to funding, and market connections to improve the quality of life for local workers.

The Nah Huakhua Tai Basket Weaving Group is a great example of using local wisdom to develop the community through a circular economy. With government support and community cooperation,the group has created sustainable income and improved their quality of life.
