Get to Know "Popor Sapsiree" Thailand's Star Badminton Player at the 2024 Olympic Games

At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, one of the standout athletes from Thailand is “Popor Sapsiree Taerattanachai,” a national badminton player with an impressive background both academically and athletically.

Popor was born into a family of badminton players. Both her father and mother were university badminton representatives. At the age of 9, she picked up a racket and started her badminton journey, though she lost her first match. After that, she trained seriously every day after school, dedicating herself fully to badminton with a clear goal of joining the national team and becoming a world champion.

Climbing to the top is difficult, but maintaining that position is even harder. Popor has won over 30 titles, none of which came easily. In 2017, she suffered a torn ACL in her knee, requiring surgery and over eight months of physical therapy. Despite this setback, she never gave up, coming back stronger than ever.

Popor is the first athlete in the world to win Grand Prix Gold titles in all three categories: women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, making her one of the most skilled and distinguished badminton players in the sport. From the moment she first stepped onto the court until today, Popor has shown that success doesn’t come easy. She has faced both joy and hardship, shaping her into the true champion she is today.
