Did You Know? How Long It Takes to Get a Film Permit in Thailand

Thailand is a popular destination for international film productions, thanks to its beautiful landscapes and comprehensive film production services. Each year, 400-500 foreign film crews shoot in Thailand, bringing revenue and helping to showcase Thai culture globally. Foreign production teams must hire a coordinator registered with the Department of Tourism to handle essential documentation, including the script, team member lists, and shooting locations. This documentation is submitted to the Thailand Film Office, which verifies the information and presents it to a review committee.

The permit processing time is divided into two categories:

  • Commercials, Documentaries, and Music Videos: Up to 3 working days
  • Feature Films, Series, or Sensitive Content: Up to 10 working days

The committee convenes three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) to expedite approvals. Once a Film Permit is issued, crews have access to filming locations nationwide, enhancing Thailand’s appeal as a global filming destination.
