The month of May marks Visakha Bucha, or the Day of Vesak, one of the most important days for Buddhists, when they celebrate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha. Buddhists will go to temples to worship and perform merit-making, as well as performing a wien tien candlelit procession, circling around a temple, in the evening. Other local cultural celebrations, especially the Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival in both Yasothon and Roi Et, also promise excitement and fun for everybody.
