What's excellent about Khao Yai wine? Get ready to GI Europe.

Khao Yai Wine.

Khao Yai wine from Nakhon Ratchasima's success in registering Geographical Indication (GI) is a symbol of the quality and growth of Thailand's wine industry. Agro-tourism is also promoted, which supports local spending and adds value to the local economy.

The Thai Wine Association, in collaboration with GranMonte Vineyard and Winery, has filed for the registration of Khao Yai wine as a geographical indication under the name "Khao Yai Wine", where the product must comply with the established wine production standards, including the use of Vitis vinifera grapes grown only in the Khao Yai area. Pak Chong District and Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima province without mixing imported wine or other fruit juices. In addition, the production process must be inspected, controlled, and registered as a member of the manufacturer, as well as documentation provided to be able to trace back.

Khao Yai wines are clear in appearance, not opaque, with the color, aroma, mouthfeel, and taste that are typical of the grape varietals. Wines made from white grapes smell like tropical fruits, ripe fruits, and flowers. While wines from red-skinned grapes are dark in color, the aroma is like ripe red fruit, black-skinned fruit, with a mouthfeel showing medium to high tannins.

The Khao Yai wine region is in the northern part of Khao Yai National Park. With a height of 300 meters above sea level, there are minerals in the soil suitable for growing grapes. The cool and dry climate in the vineyards yields high-quality grapes, suitable for use as a raw material for the production of Khao Yai wines.

To acquire acceptability and boost customer confidence, the Department of Intellectual Property has pushed for Khao Yai wine to be registered as GI in the European Union. Including opening up the European market and fostering export options, which will make it simpler to launch and grow the market while also reinvesting cash in the neighborhood and boosting the local economy.
