Carbon Institute for Sustainability (CBiS) supports SMEs towards sustainable business operations

It is undeniable that the current trend in business is leaning towards the green business, focusing on the sustainable use of resources without impacting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Many agencies in Thailand have recognized this importance greatly. To foster sustainability and see the results in the future, we see various projects related to low carbon business, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and expanding to all levels of business.

The establishment of the Carbon Institute for Sustainability (CBiS), a collaborative effort by the Arun Sor Tedsan Foundation, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, and the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, aims to drive Thailand towards becoming a net zero greenhouse gas emissions country.

The focus is on developing knowledge and creating innovative greenhouse gas management that suits Thai society, driving all levels of business towards a low carbon economy based on engineering principles. This aims to foster a low carbon economy and inclusive growth, whether it is through developing skilled individuals or the Green Talent group, which will be an important driving force for establishing a concrete and sustainable low carbon economy in Thailand. It also includes environmental sustainability, research and development of innovations, and creating cooperation with various sectors.

In addition, CBiS will support SMEs and businesses at all levels to have "knowledge and understanding" of the importance of sustainable business trends, as well as "access" to carbon footprint assessments and be able to extend these efforts to self-operation, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions which will add value to the current business sector.

     CBiS missions include:

  • - Assessing the Carbon Footprint, creating a database, and developing a platform for proper and referable greenhouse gas management.
  • - Researching and developing innovations in greenhouse gas management based on engineering principles.
  • -  Enhancing the capabilities and readiness of personnel, and integrating cooperation to promote sustainable organizations.
  • - Managing knowledge and innovation to support organization management while considering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects.
  • - Stimulating societal awareness of the environment and supporting government policies towards sustainability.
