Low-carbon business models for improving competitiveness

Low-carbon business models for improving competitiveness

In an era when the world is paying much more attention to the environment, the trend of “low-carbon business” is an important part of business operations. The government therefore attaches great importance to the development of entrepreneurs’ potential in creating added value for Thai products that meet environmental requirements.

The Department of International Trade Promotion and Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of Low-Carbon Business to allow Thai entrepreneurs to effectively adapt and gain access to greenhouse gas management, carbon emission reduction in business operations, sustainability business operations, and competitiveness in international trade.

This collaboration will provide information, knowledge, technical support, and guidance related to the measurement, reporting, verification, and certification of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as advice on management of greenhouse gasses in line with the BCG model policy in order to create green trade awareness.

An adjustment is required for Thailand’s trade in the future because of trade barriers from foreign countries, and green products will become the basis of trade through the development and promotion of entrepreneurs.

There are currently 10 pilot operators called BCG Heroes, starting to develop carbon reduction plans. In 2022, the total annual carbon emissions were estimated at 9,696,467 kg CO2e, and a goal has been set to reduce carbon emissions by an average of 20-50% or 3,183,805 kg CO2e by the end of 2023.

By 2024, the Department of International Trade Promotion aims to promote export entrepreneurs, strengthen trade, and create added value through marketing tools, as well as creating more than 200 BCG Heroes and driving 30-40 companies among them to become the “BCG Low-Carbon Pioneers” in order to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
