Thailand Genomic Databank and Center for Policy Development to support the Medical Hub

          Genomic medicine is an innovation in providing accurate and personalized medical services that combines a person’s genetic information with health data and uses information systems to analyze big data to predict the risk of disease, improve diagnosis, find effective treatment, reduce complications, reduce morbidity, and prevent premature death.

Actions

  • Promote the development of the national infrastructure needed for genomic and precision medicine services;
  • Establish Thailand Genomic Databank, a reference database of 50,000 Thai people, and a “big data” analysis system for disease diagnosis, precision treatment, disease control, and drug and vaccine development;
  • Promote the establishment of a policy development center to support the Medical Hub.

        If all of these goals are achieved, it can reduce the burden of medical and public health expenses of the country by 70,000 million baht per year and generate income for the country by extending the health services to promote the Medical Hub. Achieving these goals requires a number of mechanisms:

  • Development and use of precision medicine technologies to support the Medical Hub policy;
  • Establishment of an ecosystem for the development of vaccines and targeted biologic drugs by establishing a network for the development of targeted drugs, vaccines, and biologic drugs and promoting them in a comprehensive manner through education, the private sector, and regulatory agencies;
  • Develop the personnel for research and development of medicines and production processes for vaccines, drugs, and biologics and establish the cooperation with private sector organizations and international drug research and development agencies;
  • Promote the development of infrastructure for the turnkey development of standardized vaccines, drugs, and biological products, such as analytical laboratories for active ingredient testing, animal testing, Clinical Research Organizations (CRO), and production pilot plants;
  • Build partnerships between public and private sector organizations and international institutions.
