Creative Tourism: Salted Threadfins in Tak Bai, Narathiwat

       When talking about threadfins, a special type of fish, Thai people think of Tak Bai in Narathiwat. It is known as the “king of salted fish.” But don’t worry – salted threadfins are not too salty; the texture is fluffy and crumbly; and the smell is unique. Nowadays, the cost of the Tak Bai salted threadfins is very high – 1,500 baht per kilo, because of the complexity of the process, including a secret recipe of each shop, which has been carefully inherited from generation to generation.

       Chontara Singhe Temple, in Jaehae Subdistrict of Tak Bai District, is another location on the local tourist route and also one of the six community models in three bordering provinces in the south.
