Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria in support of sustainability management and tourist engagement

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria were developed to help people understand the concept of sustainable tourism. It serves as a baseline for making tourism destinations more sustainable, assists consumers in becoming aware of sustainable attractions, contributes to destination awareness, and informs the public about tourism destination sustainability. All of which Thailand intends to use as a practical guideline in order to change and develop Thailand’s tourist attractions in order for them to be sustainable in all aspects. Tourists are another important and direct target group.

There are criteria and indicators requiring that tourist attractions must have a monitoring system with opinion surveys, suggestions, and tourist satisfaction reports on the quality and sustainability of the tourist experience, which are made public in the process of sustainable management of tourist participation. Tourist reactions to sustainability issues must be included in surveys or public hearings, and attractions must provide tourists with sustainability information. It also discusses how tourists can contribute to the sustainability of a tourism destination in order to achieve perfect development.
