Meeting Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria through sustainability management, using a results tracking system

After many decades of tourism “running wild” around the world, with no widely accepted standards or criteria for how to manage the impacts, the industry’s players have come up with world-class sustainable tourism criteria as indicators and international norms for developing sustainable standards.

Thailand has also adopted sustainable tourism criteria to standardize the Thai tourism industry, and sustainability is the fundamental approach for tourist attractions. The locations and attractions should monitor and report on sustainability management. Systems must be established to monitor and respond to economic, social, cultural, and environmental issues, as well as to the impacts of tourism, much of which can be measured quantitatively.
Operations and performance outcomes must be supervised, assessed, and reported to the public at least once a year. Monitoring performance reports must be documented in writing. In addition, the tracking system must be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
