Application for change of visa type of foreigner – To Provide or Accept Patronage from a Thai national or a person having residency in the Kingdom (in the case of spouse) (Code O)

       To apply for a change of visa type, to allow a foreigner to provide or accept patronage from a Thai national or a person having residency in the Kingdom (in the case of spouse) (Code O), the foreigner must hold a tourist visa or transit visa only and the visa must be valid for at least 15 days.

The required documents for an application for a change of visa type are as follows:

1. Application form for change of visa type (TM.86 only for foreigners with tourist visa or transit visa) or application form for obtaining a visa (TM.87 only for Phor.15, Phor.30, Phor.Phor.30 and Phor.Phor.90 only for foreigners without a visa);

2. Copy of passport (with personal information, stamps of visas, entry stamps, and visa extension stamps (if any)), and a copy of the TM.6 departure card;

3. One photo, 4x6 cm or 2 inches;

4. Fee of 2,000 baht;

5. In case the applicant's spouse is a Thai national, evidence must be presented: copy of ID card, copy of house registration, copy of employee ID card, or copy of government official card;

6. In case of marriage registration in Thailand, the required documents are as follows: registration of marriage (Khor.Ror.2), marriage certificate (Khor.Ror.3), a copy of the marital status certificate (copy of the foreigner’s marital status certificate). If these are not applicable, a copy may be requested from the district office or the district office where the marriage was registered.

In the case of registering a marriage abroad, proof of family status registration (Khor.Ror.22) and marriage certificate in the foreign country must be presented.

Certificate from a public agency, embassy, or consulate of the foreigner in Thailand or abroad, which states that it is part of the household. 

The documents must be translated into English and certified by the foreign embassy located in Thailand or abroad and from the Legal Affairs Division, Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand. 7. In case the husband is a foreigner, proof of income must be presented, as follows:

Monthly income of not less than 40,000 baht, certified by the embassy or the consulate of the applicant in Thailand or abroad with documents referring to the source of income; or a certificate of balance from a bank in Thailand in the Thai language (“Attention: Immigration Commissioner”) and a copy of a savings or fixed account account of at least 400,000 baht. The documents must state the name of the applicant solely, and all documents must be dated and updated to the same date as the application submission date);

8. In case the husband is a Thai national, a work certificate must be presented (certified by the head of the agency not more than a month) before;

9. Six family photos with spouse and the residence (showing the house number and the inside of the house);

10. Other relevant documents; for example, in the event that the residence does not correspond to the house registration, a house rental agreement or a certificate from the landlord, together with a copy of the house registration, and ID card, certified true copy by the landlord or the house purchase agreement, and a map of the house or family and rental receipts for the past 3 months must be submitted. 

       When submitting the documents, both the applicant and the accompanying person must proceed every time. The applicant must notify the officer of the location of their residence according to Section 38 with proof of the residence notification, and sign every page, as certification. For convenient and quick checking and processing, please submit complete documents. All original documents must also be submitted to the officer.
