Ministry of Foreign Affairs Launches New "Destination Thailand Visa" (DTV)

The new "Destination Thailand Visa" (DTV) has been introduced to meet the needs of foreigners who wish to stay or work in Thailand for an extended period of up to 180 days, with an option to extend it for an additional 180 days. This visa is part of the policy to attract tourists and digital workers to reside in Thailand, which will help boost the domestic economy and elevate Thailand's status as a regional tourism hub in ASEAN. Additionally, negotiations are being expedited with five ASEAN countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Malaysia, to promote a "Joint ASEAN Tourist Visa," similar to the Schengen Visa in Europe, allowing tourists with a visa from one of these countries to travel more easily within Thailand.

Applicants interested in the DTV must meet one of the specific purposes, such as visiting Thailand and working remotely or participating in activities related to Thai soft power, such as learning Muay Thai, taking Thai cooking classes, or joining cultural festivals. Additionally, applicants need to prepare important documents such as a passport, proof of residence, and documentation demonstrating the purpose of their stay in Thailand.

The extension of the stay period and the creation of a joint tourism network with neighboring countries are expected to significantly boost Thai tourism, as well as attract more investors and digital workers to reside in the country. The DTV will be an important tool in strengthening the economy and enhancing Thailand's image in the eyes of foreigners.
