Visa-Free Extension! 60 Days Stay for Tourists from 93 Countries!

Full throttle ahead! The visa-free extension for 93 countries allows tourists to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days. This initiative aims to attract more tourists, boost the economy, and stimulate tourism during the low season.

The "visa-free" measure, or visa exemption policy, is a key government strategy to make it easier for international tourists to visit Thailand. Recently, the visa-free policy has been extended to 93 countries/territories, allowing stays of up to 60 days. The Cabinet meeting on May 28, 2024, approved this measure and announced four updates to the visa regulations:

  1. Increase the number of countries eligible for visa exemption: Tourists from 93 countries can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days for tourism, business, and short-term work.
  2. Update the list of countries eligible for Visa on Arrival (VOA): 31 countries are now included.
  3. Introduce a new visa type - Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): This visa is for foreigners who wish to combine work and travel (workcation) or engage in cultural and medical activities. It allows a stay of up to 180 days per visit, with a five-year visa validity.
  4. Allow international students: Students pursuing bachelor's degrees or higher with a Non-Immigrant Visa code ED can stay in the country for one year after graduation to seek employment or engage in other activities in Thailand.

This visa-free extension measure is expected to boost the domestic economy by increasing tourist arrivals and spending, creating economic opportunities, and distributing income among the population.
