"Phuket is a pilot project! A model for the Conservation of 72 Thai Beaches with the 'Phuket Sandbox' project."

Phuket is launching the "Phuket Sandbox," a model project for the conservation of Thai beaches under the "72 Beaches Conservation Project," in honor of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua on the occasion of his 72nd birthday anniversary. The main goal of the Phuket Sandbox project is to preserve and maintain the beauty of Thailand's beaches and seas by reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the ocean, which is a significant issue currently facing the country. The government has prioritized addressing this problem urgently, assigning the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to implement the project while raising public awareness about the conservation of natural resources and the environment.

The Phuket Sandbox project is also part of the second phase of the Plastic Waste Management Action Plan (2023 – 2027), which includes four main measures:

  1. Promoting the production and sale of environmentally friendly packaging.
  2. Campaigning for the use of eco-friendly products.
  3. Ensuring proper scientific waste management.
  4. Collecting residual waste from beaches.

Additionally, the project focuses on building cooperation between beach vendors and tourists for proper waste management and promoting environmentally friendly practices in beach tourism businesses. This initiative aims to foster awareness of beach and marine conservation, which is expected to enhance the attraction of international tourists.
