New Suvarnabhumi Expansion Plan! South Terminal Construction with SAT-2 Cancellation to Accommodate 150 Million Passengers by 2031

Suvarnabhumi Airport enters a new era! Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has revised its master plan, aiming to construct a new South Terminal and expand passenger capacity to 150 million by 2031.

Mr. Keerati Kitmanawat, CEO of AOT, revealed that AOT is currently revisiting its Suvarnabhumi Airport development master plan. The new South Terminal is set to be constructed with a budget of 120 billion baht and will accommodate up to 70 million passengers annually. Expected to open by the end of 2031, the plan also includes a 2-kilometer expansion in front of the terminal to ease traffic congestion and increase commercial space for shopping and relaxation before check-in.

Additionally, the fourth runway project, with a budget of 20 billion baht, will be open for bidding in early 2027 to support airport expansion. The east terminal expansion project, adding 81,000 square meters of passenger space, will begin bidding in December 2024.

The previously planned SAT-2 terminal project has been canceled, with AOT instead prioritizing a larger South Terminal to meet future demand.

The development of the South Terminal and other expansion projects will enable Suvarnabhumi Airport to meet future travel demands and become a regional aviation hub.
