Admire the Art! Preserve Ban Tawai Woodcarving Center, Chiang Mai

Ban Tawai, the most famous woodcarving handicraft village in Chiang Mai, is making a comeback after COVID-19, with a revival full of hope and determination! This village has long been the origin of popular woodcarving works, but after the COVID-19 situation, many shops had to close down, reducing the number from over 1,000 to just over 500. The Chiang Mai province and local entrepreneurs have joined forces to encourage tourists to return.

Plans are in place to renovate Ban Tawai into a “Jing Jai Market” style destination, with a food market to attract tourists. A budget of around 40-50 million baht has been proposed for these improvements. The Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and the Ministry of Culture to study market data and explore ways to organize activities that will attract tourists back. The goal is for Chiang Mai to be bustling again by the fourth quarter of the year, with continuous tourism promotion and marketing activities held every week at various locations, including Ban Tawai.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the beautiful and unique Thai woodcarving art of Ban Tawai. Come admire the art! Preserve and support the Thai woodcarving art at the Ban Tawai Woodcarving Handicraft Center!
