The Thai film “A Useful Ghost” took home the Grand Prize AMI Paris from the Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique) at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. This marks the first time a Thai film has competed in a decade in this category—and it clinched the top award.
Directed by Ratchapoom Boonbanchachoke and produced by 185 Films Co., Ltd., the project received funding support from multiple countries including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore, and notably from Thailand’s government through the Thailand Creative & Culture Agency (THACCA).
“A Useful Ghost” is a comedy-fantasy-horror film that tells the story of a man whose wife dies from pollution, only to return as a vacuum cleaner to battle spirits in a factory and prove that love transcends worlds.
This award highlights the growing international potential of Thailand’s film industry,
driven by collaboration between the government, the private sector, and global partners, as Thailand pushes its soft power onto the world stage.
