Thailand and China Start 50th Anniversary Diplomatic Relations in 2025 with 14 Bilateral Agreements

Thai and Chinese Prime Ministers presided over the signing of 14 bilateral agreements at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. These agreements reinforce Thailand-China cooperation across multiple strategic sectors as both nations prepare to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, known as the "Golden Year of Thai-Chinese Friendship."

The agreements include one joint statement and 13 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across economic, investment, energy, and customs cooperation. Key Thai agencies involved are the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Ministry of Energy, and the Eastern Economic Corridor Office. Several MoUs also focus on scientific collaboration, technological advancements, and digital economy initiatives.

Another set of agreements addresses customs collaboration, streamlining agriculture trade, and cross-border goods processing through partnerships between Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Customs Department with their Chinese counterparts. These efforts aim to enhance trade efficiency and ensure smooth market access for key agricultural exports.

In scientific and technological cooperation, agreements were signed between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. These partnerships focus on research, innovation, and digital transformation to support Thailand’s economic modernization and regional tech integration.

Information and media collaboration was also emphasized, with agreements between Thailand’s Public Relations Department and Thai PBS with Xinhua News Agency. These efforts aim to counter disinformation, strengthen news exchanges, and enhance cyber resilience against digital threats such as fraudulent call centers and online scams—a key issue raised by Prime Minister Paetongtarn during her talks with Chinese leaders.
