Wellness: Cannabis in health tourism

The global market value of wellness tourism exceeds 2.3 trillion baht, prompting the government to develop a policy to promote and drive the health economy in order to add value to innovation, products, and health services. One way is by promoting and supporting the use of Thai hemp and cannabis as a new economic crop and for medical purposes. It also wants to promote hemp and cannabis as a community economic crop by allowing community businesses to grow and develop health products, such as cosmetics, herbal products, medicines, and food.

Hemp and cannabis extract, in addition to its medical benefits, also has health and beauty benefits. The government wants to encourage health establishments in the category of spas and health massage to use hemp products or extracts in their establishments, but they must meet the standards set by law, and the health products they use must be been developed, supervised, and supervised by the Food and Drug Administration, as well as determining the quality of products such as massage oils that contain hemp seed oil; products are not permitted to contain more than 0.2 percent THC.

There are currently 11,543 certified health establishments, divided into 1,051 health spas, 10,248 health massage shops, and 241 beauty massage shops, piloted in health tourist provinces such as Bangkok, Khon Kaen, and Chiang Mai. The base will be expanded to other provinces in the following phases.
